Abe Cartwright passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2019.
Abe was born on February 28, 1958 in Joliet, IL to James L. and Thelma M. Cartwright. Abe was loved and known by many and will be greatly missed.
Abe was a lifelong Joliet resident. He attended Joliet Public Schools and was a 1976 graduate of Joliet East High School. Abe was the life of every party and family gathering; he never met a stranger. Abe had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. His infectious smile and fast-talking conversations always put a smile on your face, laughter in your belly and warmth in your heart.
Abe worked as a Painter and was a master of his craft. He meticulously painted walls as if they were pieces of art. In his leisure time, Abe enjoyed taking long road trips across the U.S. to visit new cities and meet new friends. In his youth, Abe could be found at many skating rinks in the Joliet and Chicago area, where he would “bounce, rock, skate and roll”, to the 70’s and 80’s grooves. Abe also loved to dance. His body moved to the musical beats with ease and enjoyment. Most of all, Abe loved God, his family and his friends. He often took the time to visit or make a quick phone call to simply say hello.
Abe was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Thelma M. Cartwright; a son, Brandon Cartwright and two brothers, Bennie Cartwright and Robert Cartwright.
Abe is survived by his loving children, Evan Lewis of Joliet, IL and Nyela Gary of Cleveland, OH; seven grand-children, Evion Lewis, Ayvion Lewis, Darmontae Lewis, Kierra Cartwright, Deaire Cartwright all of Joliet, Terry Turner and Tamara Turner of Cleveland, OH; seven brothers, James (Azilee) Cartwright, John (Doris) Cartwright, Samuel (Faye) Cartwright, Fred (Wenda) Cartwright, all of Joliet, IL, Roosevelt (Ameta) Cartwright of Atlanta, GA, Kenneth (Tina) Cartwright of Cincinnati, OH and Joseph (Monica) Cartwright of Lansing, IL; five sisters, Sarah Garner of Kankakee, IL, Bertha (Lee) Parrish of Mazon, IL, Ruth Cartwright, Hazel Cartwright, both of Atlanta, GA and Helen Malone of Downers Grove, IL; childhood friend, Carolyn (Faye) Walker; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Memorial Service will be on Saturday, August 24, 2019, 1:00PM at All Nations Church of God in Christ, 503 Water Street, Joliet, IL 60436. Host Pastor, Dwayne Barefield; Officiant, Elder James Stafford of Robbins COGIC; Eulogist, Elder M. L. Floyd of Prayer Tower COGIC.
