AVILLA — Agatha M. "Johnny" Fischer, 89, of Avilla, died on Friday, June 24, 2016, at her home. She was born on Jan. 31, 1927, in Avilla, to the late Henry and Bertha (Phillips) Truelove. A lifetime Avilla resident, she attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Avilla High School. On May 6, 1946, at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Avilla, she married Dale Fischer. He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2009. Along with her husband, she helped run the family farm and the family business, Fischer Federal Fertilizer. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting and knitting, and took great joy in gardening. She loved playing card games with her family. Mrs. Fischer was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Albion. Survivors include her son, Carl (Susan) Fischer of Avilla; son, Monte Fischer of Sioux City, Iowa; daughter, Janice (Michael) Smith of Corunna; son, Gene (Diane) Fischer of Kendallville; and son, Edward Fischer of Kendallville. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; son, Lee Fischer; and daughter, Fay Ann Fischer. Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2290 N. State Road 9, Albion, with visitation one hour prior. Fr. J. Steele officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N. Main St., Avilla, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Avilla. Memorials can be sent to Masses.
