Agnes Hagerup passed away peacefully on August 3rd, 2012 at the Juneau Pioneers' Home with family by her side. She was 93 years old. Agnes was born on November 5, 1918 in Nashua, Montana to George and Minnie (Holen) Erlandson. When she was an infant the family returned to the homestead farm in Lowry, Minnesota where she was raised. After graduating from Glenwood High School, she attended Minneapolis Business College. She did Secretarial work in Minneapolis and later in Washington D.C. for the federal government during World War II. She later moved to Pasadena, California to work and be near family. She traveled on the steamship Aleutian to Juneau in the summer of 1948 to join friends. Shortly after arriving in Juneau she met her future husband, Carl Hagerup. They married in August 1949 and were married nearly 52 years, living mostly in their home on Thane Road. She retired from the State of Alaska where she worked as Assistant Chief Clerk in the Alaska State House of Representatives for many years. She enjoyed gardening, studying about nutrition, playing piano, hiking and exploring the trails around Juneau and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and Pioneers of Alaska Women's Igloo No. 6 for many years. Agnes is survived by her three children, Ron Hagerup of Juneau, Margie(Terry) Hagerup of Indianola, WA and Karen (Dudley) Haines of Morongo Valley, CA, four grandchildren, Mollye Butters, Dwigen Buckendorf, Rose Hagerup and Lily Hagerup, one great grandchild, Sage Johnson, her sister, Gert Swift of Oakland, CA, her brother, Soley (Ellen) Erlandson of Rogers, MN, her brother, George (Kathleen) Erlandson of Glenwood, MN, her aunt, Edna Brown of Corona, CA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hagerup in 2001 and her brothers, Wallace Erlandson and Gordon Erlandson. A Memorial Service will be held August 23 at 3:00 p.m. in the Great Room of the Juneau Pioneers' Home. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a contribution in her honor may donate to the Gastineau Humane Society.
