Alan was a social and political activist and educator. He has served on the Board of Directors for several professional and community organizations and was active in city, state, and antional politics. Alan had a passion for justice and yearning to break the bonds of race, class and gender. Alan Joplin was a veteran of the civil right movement and was active in groups such as the Black Liberators, the Black Panther Party, Student for a Democratic Society, the Black Mesa Defense fund, Students Non-Violent Coordinating Committee and othe political organiztions, and participated in demonstrations at Columbia, Berkeley, Attica, Kent State the March on Washington, and the 1968 Democratic National Convention, to mention only a few. Alan Joplin has traveled etensively over the past 30 years throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America and Europe. He traveled to Cuba regularly to participate in humanitarian and to conduct educational seminars. Alan recognized the frustration of stagnation, the malaise of misunderstanding and the need to develop an intense commitment, strategy and blue-print for change.
