BELPRE — Alan Mitchell Smith, 82, of Belpre, died on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 3:10 p.m. at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Born on April 17, 1941, on Bethel Ridge near Plantsville, he was the son of the late Guy and Zelica Lewis Smith.
He graduated from Ames-Bern High School in 1959 and worked as a maintenance supervisor in the Teflon Division for 33 years at DuPont Chemical in Parkersburg, W.Va. He was a member of the Whitman Chapel AME Church in Belpre. He loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, basketball and golf, and was a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Loraine Dalton Smith of the home, whom he married on June 5, 1993; a son, Alan M. Smith Jr. (Amanda) of Belpre; two daughters, Beth Schwartz (Steve) of Longview, Wash., and Zelisha Butler (Randy) of Salem, Ore.; a stepson, Eric Griffin (Gisa) of Carrolton, Texas; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Griffin of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Ellen Tate of Belpre; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Guy “Sonny” Smith.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 1 p.m., at the Bethel Wesleyan Church near Bartlett, with Rev. Terry Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hermon Cemetery near Amesville.
Friends may call on the family on Tuesday, October 3rd, from 5-8 p.m. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill.
