ALBERT JOSEPH (A.J.) CLANAN A. J. passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, November 11, 2016 with his family at his side. A. J. was born on February 9, 1932 in Florien, LA to the late Louis H. and Mary Larindia Clanan. He left his hometown at the age of 17 to join the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in El Paso in May of 1953. He retired from the United States Civil Service after 39 years of service. A. J. was dedicated to supporting Veterans rights and helping Veterans. A Life Member American Legion was serving as Adjutant for Alfred H. McCluskey Post 692 and Past 16th District Commander of the American Legion (1992-1994). Also, a Life Member of Yucca VFW Post 8919; S.A.L. # 692; Order of the Elks; Grand Masonic Lodge of TX AF & AM, Lodge 1137; Scottish Rite, and Voiture Locale 40/8 # 605. Currently serving as a Board Member of the Veterans Transitional Living Center. He was a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, and continued his service with them for many years. He loved to fish and hunt with all his buddies in earlier years, what a time they would have. A.J. was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Leo and Allen), two sisters (Germaine and Elma) and daughter Carol Ann. A.J. leaves behind his best friend and wife of more than 40 years, Jackie; sister, Cecilia Hebert of Ragley, LA; son Aubert of Dallas, TX and daughter Patti (Gary) Renenger of Montana City, MT. Four grandchildren, Aaron Clanan, Deborah Renenger, Joseph Renenger and Andrew Renenger, three great-grandchildren, Andrew Clanan, Kaytlynne Clanan and Aaric Clanan, numerous nephews, nieces, comrades and friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rogelio Castaneda, John Rangel, and Juanita Rogers-Eaves for their care of A.J. in his last hours. Gathering of Remembrance will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 21, 2016 followed by Scripture Services at 12:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass and Interment will be at 1:00 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
