After a long life and a short illness, Bert Jackson passed on to a new existence on Oct. 11, 2010. He was born on Nov. 14, 1906, in Blackfoot, Idaho, the son of James Jackson and Ethel Pearl Cameron. He had four sisters and six brothers. All but his brother David have preceded him in death. Bert married Laura Van Orden on June 5, 1940. Laura passed away in 2002. They made their home in Lewiston, Utah, where they raised their family. Bert was also preceded in death by his son, Lavern and a daughter-in-law Gail (wife of K. Arnold). Bert is survived by his children, Bertha (Joe) Diaz, Demar, K Arnold, Pauline, Morris (Beverly), 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Midge. Bert was raised on a farm where he learned the value of hard work. He worked for many farmers in Cache Valley and for the Amalgamated Sugar Company. When he wasn't farming he was running a trap line where he trapped mink, beaver and muskrats. He continued trapping until he was 75. As a young man he enjoyed playing baseball and attending social events. His favorite pastime was fishing and playing pool. He spent many hours with his friends and family enjoying these activities. He was always willing to share his catch with friends and neighbors. During his later years he enjoyed playing cards, watching baseball games and western movies. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Oct. 15, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Bert will be laid to rest next to his wife and son in the Lewiston City Cemetery.
