Mr. Albert Jerry King, Sr. age 83, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at his home following a brief illness. He was born on August 10, 1925 in Columbia County, son of Claude and Mariah King. He attended Columbia County Schools. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945 and received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received at the Battle of Iwo Jima. He returned to Lake City and worked at J.C. Penney Department Store, then at Van H. Priest Department Store. He returned to J.C. Penney where he retired in 1988. He was an active member of the Lake City Church of God for 54 years, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, Youth Director, Council member, Trustee and Treasurer for 47 years and "Young at Heart" director. He loved his family and friends, spending time with children and grandchildren. He loved to garden and was always helping others. He enjoyed working for the Lord and was willing to do whatever he could. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mariah King, his brothers, Paul and Franklin King and his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Alan and Susie King. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred King of Lake City, Fla.: His daughter, Janet (Mark) Tuttle of Lake City, Fla.: Two sons, Dale King, Sr. and Jerry King both of Lake City, Fla.: One sister, Patricia (Loren) Singley of Lake City, Fla.: One brother, Claude (Geneva) King, Jr. of Adairsville, GA.: Grandchildren, Kelli (Ken) Cole, Dale King, Jr., Kerri King, Ashley (Kevin) Kennington, Holly King, Nick and Megan Tuttle: Great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kaleb, Kristopher and Kail Albert Cole, Bella King and Kelsie Kennington. Numerous nieces, nephews and other family members also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 14, 2009 in the Lake City Church of God with Rev. Carroll Lee, Pastor, officiating and assisted by Rev. Jack McKinley, Rev. Timothy Futch and Rev. Terry Hull. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, Fla. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, February 13, 2009 at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Fla.
