Albert "Bert" Leroy Saxton, 86, of Blackfoot, passed away peacefully on Saturday Nov. 12, 2016 at the Gem Village Assisted Living in Blackfoot.Bert was born on March 16, 1930 in Pocatello, Idaho to Newcomb John Saxton and Fern Louise Dawson. In 1947, he enlisted in the Air Force. He was 17 at the time and had to have his parents give their permission to let him join. He served honorably during the Korean War for four years.Following his service, he worked for the City of Pocatello. Bert worked for PFE Railroad for more than 40 years as mechanic.In October 1953, he married the love of his life, Twila Joy Leffler. Together they raised their three children in Moreland; Julie, Twila Lee and Scott.He loved golfing and also fishing. He enjoyed playing pinochle with his friends and family members. For his 80th birthday he went skydiving with his family in Mesquite, Nev. For more than 20 years, during the winter months, he and his wife would travel down to Beaver Dam, Ariz. where they would enjoy making friends, playing golf and visiting the surrounding areas.He is survived by his children Julie (Brad) Hale, of Moreland, Twila Lee (Stephen) Turnmire, of Blackfoot and Scott Saxton, of Moreland, his sisters, Pennie (Fred) Saunders and Vonda Judkins, 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife Twila Joy Saxton; his parents, Newcomb and Fern Saxton; his brothers, Dee Saxton and Darrell Saxton, his sister, Linda Shamburg and two grandsons, Aaron and Jared Hale.Funeral Services will be held at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16. Family members will receive friends and family at a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Hawker Funeral Home and again one hour prior to the funeral services.
