Albert "Bert" MastersonBert Masterson, 91, of Loveland passed away on January 11, 2017. Bert was born on May 12, 1925 in Brownsville, PA to Fred and Lillie (Kifer) Masterson. He graduated from nearby Charleroi High School. At the age of 18 he joined the Navy and served as a radioman aboard LST 456 in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. Bert was discharged from the Navy and moved to Clovis, New Mexico. While enrolled at Eastern New Mexico University he met Martha Brown. They were married on July 7, 1950 and moved to Morton, TX where he taught 6th grade and high school. In 1953 they moved to Hobbs, NM where he taught at the high school for nine years. There they had two children, Fred and Paula.In 1962 Bert accepted a teaching position at CSU in the Vocational Education Department. While at CSU he continued his studies and earned his PhD. Bert was an effervescent and dedicated teacher who mentored hundreds of students throughout his career. After retiring from CSU in 1985 Bert became an entrepreneur, co-owning and operating five Micro Computer World stores in Northern Colorado. But his true passion was the mountains and his cabin in Pingree Park. At the cabin he created a place for his family and friends to come together and share in love and laughter. Bert and Martha moved to Loveland in 1993 and became active in the First Christian Church. Bert is survived by his wife Martha; son, Fred Masterson and wife Jan of Fort Collins, CO; daughter Paula LaFortune and husband Phillip of Niwot, CO; granddaughters Mekiah DeJong, Greta Masterson, Jocelyne LaFortune, Audrey LaFortune, Mary Louisa LaFortune, Erin Knobel, and Ellen Albertz; grandson Nathan Huner; 9 great-grandchildren; brother Vernon Masterson of Reno, NV; sister Rae Fisk of Nampa, ID; and sister Thelma Holland of McKee Rocks, PA.A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in Loveland, CO on Monday January 16, 2017 at 11:00am.
