Alberta CookAlberta (Swisher) Cook, 76, of Lafayette, passed away on August 14, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.  Alberta was born on October 17, 1940 in Lafayette to Albert and Katherine (Taylor) Swisher.  She married John E. Cook on August 1, 1958 in Lafayette, and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2017.  Alberta loved volunteering at Hanna Center, bowling, feeding the homeless, playing softball, fishing, and playing cards, especially euchre.  She truly enjoyed life, loved to laugh and spend time with family and friends.  A special thanks to her sister, Linda, who was the Thelma to her Louise, and to her Star Lane's and Hanna Center family.  Also, a special thanks to her neighbors who took great care of her.  She loved you all!Surviving is one daughter, Kathy (husband: Gary) Jennings of Lafayette, siblings, Linda Maddox of Lafayette, Judy Riley of North Carolina, John Swisher of Lafayette, Joe Swisher of Lafayette, and half- brother, Jay Summers of Lafayette.  Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Austin Jennings, Heath Jennings, Samantha (husband: Shawn) Newman, and Trevor Scott, and 1 great grandchild, Penelope Vanderkleed-Jennings.She is preceded in death by one brother, Jim Swisher, and two sisters, Phyllis Kelly, and Donna Vogel.Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at Simplicity Funeral Care with Austin Jennings and Heather Maddox officiating.  In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the Hanna Center ( www.hannacntr.org/), or Lafayette Urban Ministry Emergency Shelter.  In honor of all those who have suffered with cancer, the family would like you to reach out to your congressman to encourage legalizing medical marijuana.  Share memories and condolences at www.simplicity-funeralcare.com.
