Alberto Antonio Montoya, 69, of Las Vegas, passed away Nov. 25, 2012 at the Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque. Alberto Montoya was born on May 3, 1943, in Taos, N.M., to Filemon and Katarina Montoya. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Guadalupe Castellano on Dec. 31, 1961. Over the next 50 years, they raised a family of four sons and four daughters and enjoyed the company of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Alberto Montoya enjoyed a long and varied career that included a multitude of occupations including working at Funk's, the family-owned Five-and-Dime store; a butcher at the Columbia Supermarket; Montgomery Wards; a guard at the New Mexico State Prison, and he worked in the oil drilling industry in a career that took Alberto and his family from Texas to Wyoming. He was also a self-taught mechanic and carpenter and excelled at any challenge the Lord placed before him.Alberto Montoya is preceded in death by son: Samuel Montoya; father: Filemon Montoya; sister: Rosella Montoya-Shepard; sister-in-law: Martha Baca–Montoya; and father and mother-in-law: Lorenzo and Raphelita Gutierrez.He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years: Guadalupe Montoya; son: Adrian Montoya of Hobbs; daughter: Jacqueline Moore (Larry) of Raton; son: Carlos Montoya (Lori) of Carlsbad; daughter: Darlene Trujillo (Gene); daughter: Denise Antrillo (Nick); son: Ronald Montoya (Terese); and daughter: Deborah Mora (Ray) all of Las Vegas; grandchildren: Melvina, Desiree, Suzanne, Christina, Monet, Stephanie, Raelynn, Anthony, Donna, Robert, Crystal, Miguel Angel, Janelle, Ashley, Charles, Melanie, Jaime, Miranda, and Javier. Alberto is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his mother: Katarina Montoya of Las Vegas; sister: Roberta Weahkee of Santa Fe; brothers: Ronnie Montoya (Mary Grace), Fernando Montoya, and Donald D. Montoya all of Las Vegas; close family friends: David and Susan Montoya of Bosque Farms, Juan and Beverly Baca of Santa Rosa, and Rick and Patsy Pace of Las Vegas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.Cremation has taken place at the Rivera Funeral and Cremations in Española.Rosary services are set for 7 p.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral mass and eulogy will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.Alberto Antonio Montoya will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
