Aleene Stringer PerkinsA Chapel Service for Aleene Stringer Perkins was held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, April 14, 2017, with Chaplain Greg Carroll officiating. Interment followed at Alexandria Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.Aleene Stringer Perkins, 76, of Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Lexington House surrounded by family. Aleene was preceded in death by her father, Steven E. Stringer and great-grandson, Preston Cutts. Aleene was born on September 25, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her parents were Steven and Ruby Stringer. Aleene had two sisters, Gloria Whiddon, and Opal Pepiton. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1958. Aleene worked as a teacher's aide at Rugg Elementary and an attendance clerk at Bolton High School. She retired from the Rapides Parish School Board after 33 years of service. She was raised in Hattiesburg, Mississippi until her family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Aleene enjoyed traveling. Aleene traveled to several countries and all 50 states by bus, plane, train, car, or any other way she could have. She enjoyed talking about traveling to anyone that would listen to her. She had a hobby of collecting elephants and bought one everywhere she went. Aleene had close to 1,000 elephants. Aleene's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory include her three children, Gene (Butch) Perkins, Jr. and wife, Phyllis, Tami Perkins Robichaux and husband, Dorville (Boo), and Sheri Perkins Gatlin; mother, Ruby Glisson Stringer; and, two sisters, Gloria Whiddon, and Opal Pepiton. Aleene is also survived by six grandchildren, Melanie Cutts, Courtney Gatlin, Jared Perkins, Kari Noel, Colton Gatlin, and Stephanie Rabalais; along with seven great-grandchildren, Ryland Cutts, Grayson Noel, Amelia Cutts, Blake Gatlin, Bennett Gatlin, and Avery Rabalais.
