Alexander SzaboAGE: 80 • HazletAlexander Szabo, fondly known as "Alex", 80, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Alexander was born on February 20, 1937 in Szabadszallas, Hungary, where he grew up. In 1956, Alex fled Hungary during the Revolution and spent a short time in Austria. A few years later in 1959 at the age of 19, he left Austria and began his life in the United States. Shortly after arriving in the U.S. he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served our country from 1961 to 1963. On March 9, 1964, Alex became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. For the last 40 years, Alex owned and operated Szabo Electric Motor Repair Company in Matawan.He was predeceased by his parents, Elemer and Piroska (Sass) Szabo, and his son, Gordon Szabo. Alex is survived by his beloved wife, Marion (Haney) Szabo, his loving son, Alexander Szabo, his cherished grandchildren, Kristie and Eric Miller, along with a host of loving family members in Hungary and Scotland. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, May 30th from 3 to 7 PM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Hwy/Rt 35 N, Hazlet. A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home at 5:30 PM, lead by Pastor Andras Szasz. During the visiting hours, Alex will receive military honors from the U.S. Army.
