LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — Alfred Holt Grant, Jr., formerly of Laurinburg and resident of Little River, SC passed away October 4, 2016.
Holt was born on May 10, 1950 and was a graduate of UNC and after relocating to Little River from Chicago, he maintained his online textile sales business.
Holt was a member of Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, actively involved as a member of Praise Lessons Sunday school class, men of iron, men's prayer breakfast, and started the ODPC prayer team. After struggling for years with the loss of his wife, Holt used that experience to help others by becoming a leader for the national program GriefShare.
Holt was a fun loving man, with almost as much devotion to golf, as he had for his church, his family, and friends. For those who knew him, it is unanimously accepted that he was very generous, compassionate, a true lover of life and people, with a strong faith in God. He loved beach music, seafood, ice cream, watching the golf channel, and his dog, Levi. The hallmarks of his character include his friendly and winning personality, his humor, and his kind, gentle disposition. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth Pomeroy Grant and Alfred Holt Grant, Sr., and his wife, Melissa.
He is survived by sister, Betty Condon (John), of Greenwich, CT; two daughters, Emily Shea (Dave), of Austin, TX and Kate Hambrook (Charlie), of Forest Park, IL; granddaughter, Clare Hambrook; in-laws, Joe and Kate Wespiser; sisters-in-law, Melinda Armstead (Jim) and Marsha Duplechain (Mike); and his fiance, Jean Odom Yates, of Little River, SC.
A memorial service will be held at ODPC on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow.
