Alfred Gutierrez, a lifelong resident of Trujillo, passed away peacefully on Nov. 20, 2013, at the age of 92 after an extended illness.He was born on Oct. 16, 1921, in Trujillo to Feliz Gutierrez and Antonia Crespin-Gutierrez. Alfred served his country in World War II. He was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii for two years and then in Okinawa, Japan, where he was part of a medical team at an evacuation center. There he would administer first aid to injured soldiers and then send them by boat or plane to a place where they could receive medical treatment. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He came back home to Trujillo and was employed at McCurdy Gas and then at New Mexico Highlands University in the maintenance department.After retiring from the Department of Transportation in 1984, Alfred spent most of his time on the family ranch, where he raised cattle. He enjoyed the outdoors and riding to the canyon to feed the cows. Alfred was a loving and caring son, brother, uncle and friend, always inquiring how everyone was doing and wishing them well.He is preceded in death by his parents, Feliz and Antonia Gutierrez; sisters, Stella Lujan and Lucinda Lujan; brothers, Felix Gutierrez, Adolph Gutierrez, Tony Gutierrez, Willie Gutierrez, Nash Gutierrez, Eloy Gutierrez, Eddie Gutierrez and Margarito Gutierrez. Alfred is survived by his brother, Albert Gutierrez of Trujillo; sisters- in-law, Josie Gutierrez of Greeley, Colo., Betty Gutierrez of Longmont, Colo., and Florence Gutierrez of Hudson, Colo.; brother-in-law, Henry Lujan of Las Vegas and numerous nieces and nephews.A lifelong Catholic, Alfred was a member of San Isidro Church in Trujillo.Rosary devotional services will be held at 7 p.m. today (Monday) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 26, at Immaculate Conception Church, with Father George Salazar officiating. Interment will follow at San Isidro Cemetery in Trujillo. The following shall serve as pallbearers: Jimmy Gutierrez, Cip Lujan, Jr., Roderick Lujan, Michael Gutierrez, Patrick Gutierrez and Dave J.
