Alfred Judson BarcanAlfred Judson Barcan, 85, passed away on July 16, 2017. He was born on April 14, 1932 in New York City and raised there. His parents were the late Irving and Helen Barcan. He previously resided in Jersey City, Livingston and has lived in Hillsdale since 1969. He graduated from the Dwight School in New York City, Lehigh University with a BS in Industrial Engineering and received an MBA in Accounting from NYU's Stern School of Business. He worked for Pfizer forever 20 years as a senior financial manager. He was a member of Lehigh University's Asa Packer Society and Tower Society. He was recently honored by his alma mater for his donation of the Deborah and Alfred Judson Barcan Collection of Rare Books. Alfred was also a long time member of Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley. Alfred is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deborah, daughter Kathy Higgins, and her husband, Mike, of River Vale, son, Daniel, of Hillsdale, and cherished grandchildren, William and Evelyn Higgins. He is also survived by a brother, Donald and his wife, Nan, and two nieces and a nephew. During his lifetime Alfred enjoyed reading and collecting books, traveling and photography. His photographs appeared in many magazines and newspapers. He suffered from a rare heart disease, amyloidosis, and was proud to take part in clinical trials at New York Presbyterian Hospital led by Dr. Mathew Maurer and his staff which prolonged his life and hopefully will help others. Graveside services for the immediate family will be at Cemetery, 388 Saw Mill River Road, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY on Tuesday, July 18. Shiva will take place at the family residence in Hillsdale from 3-8 PM on Wednesday, July 19 and 3-7 PM on Thursday, July 20.
