Alice Christian KressMANSFIELD: Alice Christian Kress age 83 of Mansfield, Ohio died peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Kindred Hospital. She was born on February 7, 1933 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Lowell Willard Gayman and Mildred Alverna (Royer) Gayman. Alice graduated from Scipio-Republic High School and received a nursing diploma from Ida Firestone School of Nursing, Akron City Hospital. Alice was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mansfield, with fond ties to Linden Road Presbyterian Church and First English Lutheran Church. She belonged to the Christian Women's Enrichment Group for 30 years. Alice enjoyed the many people she loved and served. Family activity was the center of her life, whether it was working in the vegetable garden, avid bird watching, visiting Ohio historical sites, or helping to instill the value of education in the hearts of her children. Alice is survived by her husband of 59 years, Reverend Cloyd E. Kress, former MedCentral Hospital Chaplain, First English Lutheran Church Visitation Pastor, and Pastor of Linden Road Presbyterian Church; her children Rebecca Kress of Mansfield and David Kress of Soldotna, Alaska; and the 3 granddaughters Grandma was so proud of: Hannah and her husband David Lawrence of Anchorage, Alaska, Alisah Kress, movie animator of Montreal, Canada and Natalie Kress, radiology technician of Soldotna, Alaska; great-granddaughter, Jesenia Lawrence, whose first words Alice heard with a big smile days before her passing; and numerous, wonderful nieces and nephews. A joyful family reunion is occurring as Alice was the last of her family to pass on to Heaven. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Lowell R. Gayman and his wife Lorabelle Mason Gayman and their son Jerry; sister, Alverna Hentges and her husband Robert and their daughter Denise; and brother, James Gayman and his wife Luann Noble Gayman. Friends and family may call at the Linden Road Presbyterian Church, 160 Linden Road, Mansfield from 10:00 a.m. - Noon on Saturday, January 21, 2017 where the funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in Darke County, Ohio.
