RACINE - Alice L. Nelson, 95, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2015 at Harmony Commons. She was born on April 23, 1919 in Racine the daughter of the late Peter and Olga (Hoffman) Nelson. After graduation from high school, Alice received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She proudly served in the United States Army, during World War II as a nurse and was a longtime member of The American Legion Post 0310. Alice was a longtime member of Atonement Lutheran Church. She was employed at Massey Ferguson as a personnel secretary, retiring after more than 30 years of service. Alice found great enjoyment in travel, reading romance novels, monkeys, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan and Chicago Cubs Fan and could be found gambling in Las Vegas and various casinos; along with betting at horse and dog tracks throughout the area. Alice is survived by her sister, Ruth Badley, sisters-in-law, Donna Nelson, Karen Nelson, nieces and nephews, Jana Nelson, Kelli Nelson, Bill Badley, Kari (Mike) DeGroot and Jim Nelson. She is also survived by nine great nieces and nephews, and 10 great great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, William Bill Nelson, James Joe Nelson, Richard Dick Nelson, nephew, Peter Nelson and brother-in-law, William Badley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating with full military honors to follow. Visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 pm until time of service. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. Alice will be missed by all.
