Volden, AliceAlice Volden, age 85, of Sister Bay, WI died peacefully at Hearthside Assisted Living on Wednesday March 22, 2017. Alice was born on December 1, 1931 to Carl and Emelia Carlson, She graduated from Senn High School in Chicago. Worked at First National Bank of Chicago for several years in the trust department. She met Marvin Volden at Young Adult Fellowship at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago. They were married there on May 14, 1955. She was a stay at home mom raising 4 children until the early 70's when she went to work in the office at Edison Park Lutheran Church (EPLC). Alice and Marvin retired to Sister Bay in 1989 where they built a log home on the family property.Alice was very involved in the churches she attended. Serving in many capacities in the Women's Guild at EPLC, working on Mission Bazaars, Bowling in the women's and couple club. She enjoyed making mission quilts with the women at EPLC and Shepherd of the Bay (Sister Bay). Set up and served meals for countless funerals and church events at Ebenezer, Edison Park, Shepherd of the Bay and Immanuel Lutheran Churches.She also enjoyed making many different craft items throughout the years, most notably knitting dish cloths and throw blankets, including prayer shawls for Immanuel Lutheran Church. She also loved to bake and is well known for her apple pies, potato salad and rice pudding. She loved to entertain and hosted many gatherings at her home both in Chicago and Sister Bay. She especially loved to have her children and grandchildren at their Door County home. Alice will be remembered for the way she was quick to help out where needed, always welcoming of others, was kind and thoughtful. She had a generous heart. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, son Glenn, brothers Carl and Robert. She is survived by her husband, Marvin, of 61 years. She is also survived by her children Kevin (Sharon) Volden, Douglas (Vicki) Volden and Susan (David) Gunderson, grandchildren Dane (Joanne) Volden, Kari Volden, Brad (Nicole)Volden and Krista Volden. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other extended family members. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday March 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7973 Hwy 57, Baileys Harbor, WI. Visitation from 9:30 until the time of the service. A lunch will follow at the church. Interment will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Chicago on Thursday, March 30. (TBA).
