Dec. 13, 1934 - Nov. 4, 2016 Almagonda Margaretha-Marie Hulskamp, aged 81, died peacefully on November 4, 2016, after struggling with Parkinson's disease for a number of years. Alma was born on December 13, 1934, in Solo (Surakarta), Java, Indonesia, the daughter of Leendert and Flora Hage. Alma's tropical paradise as a young child was dramatically altered forever after World War II began. During the Japanese occupation of Indonesia, she was forced to live in an internment camp with her mother and two brothers, Oulaf and Leendert Jr., while her father, a military policeman in the Dutch army, was a prisoner of war. Shortly after the war ended, Alma and her family moved to Holland, first settling in Veghel, Netherlands in 1950. Alma married the love of her life, Robert L. Hulskamp, on July 16, 1958. In 1962, the couple and their two-year old son, Gunard, boarded a trans-Atlantic ship bound for the United States and eventually settled in Everett, Washington, where their second son, Jeff, was born later that year. Alma had a number of interests, including ballroom and country dancing and attending church. She touched countless lives with her smile and compassion embracing everyone that she met. She was also very proud of her Dutch and Indonesian heritage and instilled the same pride in her children. Alma lived life with dignity, grace, strength, respect, perseverance, and love. She had an undying love for her family and friends, and supported and nurtured them each day. Alma will be sorely missed by all but her beautiful spirit will always remain. Alma is survived by her husband, Robert; and sons, Gunard (Cheryl) and Jeff; and brothers, Oulaf (Laurel) and Leendert (Loes). She also leaves behind grandchildren, Nicole, Megan (Mike), Jeffrey, Heather (Rashad), Nicholas, and Gary; and great grandchildren, Amaya, Peyten, Parker, and Paxtin. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at Evergreen Cemetery, and a Celebration of Life for everyone who would like to help relive her memories. The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 3:00 PM at Aviara Clubhouse, 14915 38th Dr. SE, Bothell, WA 98012. To RSVP or for more information, please send an email to
