SACO - Alphonse Demers, 90, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at The Inn at Atlantic Heights in Saco.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1926, to George J. and Rose Anna (Bisson) Demers in Biddeford. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years in Europe as a Tech 5 during World War II and was honorably discharged.
He married Solange Drouin at St. Andre Church in Biddeford. They were happily married until her death in 2001.
Alphonse was an electrician at Saco-Lowell Shops, Edwards Plant and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He and his wife owned Moreau Motel in Old Orchard Beach and the Colony Motel in Scarborough.
He enjoyed playing golf, watching the Patriots play football and spending time with his family. He loved to hunt and be outdoors. He also enjoyed playing cards and Sudoku, and putting jigsaw puzzles together. Alphonse was known to his family as a generous, honorable and gentle man.
Alphonse lived at the "The Inn" for the past year. He enjoyed the staff and residents and was grateful for their service. Prior to "The Inn," he resided in Dania Beach, Florida, for 20 years.
He is preceded in death by: two brothers, Lucien Demers and Hervé Demers and his spouse; two sisters, Angela Remillard and Rita Lacroix and their spouses; and two nephews, Roger Lacroix and Albert H. Demers, Jr.
Alphonse is survived by: his sister, Gloria B. Demers; his sister-in-law, Blanche Labonte Demers; 18 nieces and nephews; 36 grandnieces and nephews; several great-grandnieces and nephews; and many cousins.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.
