Mrs. Amaka Achebe was born in 1945 in the village of Oraukwu, Anambra Nigeria. Amaka was born to two loving parents, Chukwunonso Chukwujindu and Chimamanda Okeke and was one of 8 children. From a young age, Amaka took an interest in the sick which led her to pursue a career in nursing.
In 1965, Amaka graduated first in her class at Christ the King Nursing College for women and shortly after took a position in her community’s Women and Children’s hospital. It was during this time, that she married Mr. Chibuzor Achebe; they welcomed three children into the world. Amaka was the midwife to thousands of women over her 40 year career and was affectionately known as “Mama Amaka” by her beloved community.
Amaka is proceeded in death by her parents and 2 brothers. She leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years, Chibuzor Achebe, three children, Agnes Okofor-Achebe (Chukwuka Okafor), Emmanuel Achebe (Mary Achebe), and Elizabeth Chukwu- Achebe (Peter Chukwu) and a host of friends and family.
