Amanda Church Hayne KirkwoodAmanda Church Hayne Kirkwood died peacefully on November 14, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. She was 61. Amanda is survived by her husband, John Kirkwood; son Spencer Kirkwood; daughters Elisabeth and Alexandra Kirkwood; brothers Alston Hayne (Adrian) and Nicholas Hayne; and numerous cousins, siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews.Amanda was born on October 21, 1955 in Kingston, Jamaica to diplomat William Alston Hayne and Elisabeth Church Hayne. Amanda spent her young life living abroad in Peru, France and Mexico, fostering a worldliness and global citizenship that endured into her adult life. Her passion for travel never wavered, and she continued to explore new places, forge connections through the multiple languages she spoke fluently, and dazzle friends and family with her stories.Amanda was a woman of numerous passions – a talented singer and writer, a voracious reader and a friend to all. Her legacy will live on in the various charities to which she was passionately dedicated, and in friends and family who will cherish memories of her insatiable curiosity and unmatched wit.As we mourn the loss of Amanda, we take solace in the knowledge that each day in her life was brimming with enough excitement, camaraderie, intellectual discourse, music, and zest for adventure to last a lifetime.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to women's charities. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on December 3rd at the Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin, 2325 Union Street, San Francisco.
