It is time to celebrate the incredible and diverse life of Andrea Crispin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Andrea leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of joy and laughter.
Born on March 2, 1945, Andrea (Andy) was the oldest child for Ray and Audrey Hern. As a child Andy loved everything outdoors. She and her father often fished and hunted to provide food for the family. She loved animals and had a variety of pets including a raccoon, porcupine, turkey, many dogs and her ever loyal horse, Stormy. At a time where there were few, if any, girls' sports teams, Andrea didn't let that stop her. She simply tried out and earned spots on the boys teams.
After graduating high school, Andy enlisted in the Navy. For a woman who hated water and didn't know how to swim, when asked, "Why the Navy?" She simply replied, "They had the best uniforms." After four years she left the Navy to raise her two children, Dale and Brenda.
In the early 1970's Andrea and her children moved to Portland, Oregon where she met the love of her life, Patrick Crispin. Their adventures together would last 50 years. Together they ran two highly successful award-winning full service gas stations in Beaverton, Oregon. Andrea studied hard and became the first female master mechanic in Oregon for Union 76. One of their favorite hobbies was to pack up the kids, sleeping bags, Coleman stove, and two-man pup-tent onto their motorcycles and explore the beauty Oregon had to offer. Andy enjoyed playing AAA womens softball. Her team was highly successful, even becoming Oregon State AAA Champions and then placing 3rd in regionals. As if that wasn't enough Andy really enjoyed teaching young girls. She coached girls, volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was incredibly proud to become an umpire for both women's softball and men's baseball college teams. You should have seen this petite 5’2” woman going toe to toe with the players after an unpopular call! In 1976 Pat and Andy welcomed their daughter, Tawna.
In 1980 Pat and Andy made the difficult decision to move the family to Anacortes, Wa hoping for a quieter life. To continue using her extensive automotive knowledge, Andy worked for two different automotive supply stores quickly working her way up to manger. Due to Pat's work location the family once again moved in 1986 and bought 5 acres outside Seabeck, Wa. Andrea, became the Automotive Center manager at Bangor Submarine Base which she managed until her retirement. Excited to have land and the ability to have horses, Andy and Pat soon found themselves with 3. Andy eventually purchased the horse she would refer to as her "heart and soul," Cochise. The two of them were very close and enjoyed many hours trail riding and camping. Pat and Andy enjoyed being part of the Back Country Horseman, Olympic Chapter.
Andy and Tawna found the next great passion when they decided to start their own 4H Dog Club, Muttley Crew. During this time they were introduced to puppy raising for Guide Dogs For the Blind (GDB). Together they raised several dogs but soon each decided to raise individually, often raising siblings. Ever the leader, Andy soon found herself teaching new puppy raisers as co-leader for the GDB Kitsap Navigators. After many years with Guide Dogs For The Blind, Andy found Summit Assistance Dogs and began her journey volunteering by raising puppies, managing the local raisers, fundraising, and eventually joining the board of directors. Andrea also found time to volunteer for Kitsap Animal Rescue & Education (KARE). She became the first adoption coordinator for KARE and helped develop the processes for others to follow. She was proud knowing she was part of helping rescue dogs and educate new owners.
Upon retirement, Pat and Andy sold their property, purchased a new truck and trailer and began traveling the United States with their three dogs, Ruger, Sunny, and Mason. They purchased a new summer home base at Port Susan Camping Club in Tulalip, Wa and found a new winter home in Apache Junction, Az. They enjoyed checking off bucket list locations like, Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, The Badlands, Nashville, and so many other off the beaten path locations.
Andrea's pride and joy was her family! Nothing was more important to her than their health, happiness, and success.
