It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Angela “Angi” Smith's sudden and unexpected departure from our lives after a brief illness on June 20, 2024. Born on May 20, 1951, Angela was a beacon of strength, always ready to offer a comforting smile when it was most needed.
➰
Angela's memory lives on in the hearts of her beloved family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Smith, and their children, Shawna Cleversley, Chris Burdett, and Billy Smith. Her daughters-in-law, Nichole Wagner and Michelle Burdett, and son-in-law, Garret Cleversley, were all recipients of her love and care. Her grandchildren, Cassie, Zach, Trevor, Alex, Owen, and Isabella were the joys of her life. Angela is now reunited with her parents, Francis and Lucy Morey, and her sister, Thelma Drozdo.
➰
Angie will be forever remembered as an eternal caregiver, always putting others before herself. Her life was marked by several admirable achievements, most notably as a highly regarded Registered Nurse for more than 25 years at St. James Hospital and subsequently as a nursing teacher for 15 years. She had a passion for taking care of others and educating future generations of caregivers. Even in retirement, she continued to care for her family and friends, always lending a helping hand.
➰
Angela’s nurturing nature extended beyond her professional life. She inherited her mother's love of ensuring that everyone had a hearty meal of sauce and meatballs, especially on Sunday afternoons when the Buffalo Bills were playing. She also found joy in community events and water aerobics. But above all, she cherished the moments when we were all together, making memories.
➰
Angela’s life was celebrated on June 23, 2024, in Lake Alfred. Angela touched so many lives, and she leaves behind an enduring legacy of warmth and devotion to her family, friends, and the causes she cared about. To Angi’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Angi many years ago as her mom, Lucy Daniele (Daniels) and my grandma, Flora (Cianciosi) Nogaro, were first cousins. Angi and Bill attended our last family reunion in 2014 or 2015. Please know that I’m thinking of you all at this terribly sad time. I have so many wonderful memories of our relatives from Hornell. They were all such beautiful people, and Angi was one of them. God bless her. With love, Christopher from Buffalo
Such a truly beautifully kind soul…she was ALWAYS pouring her heart into what she did for others. I will remember how much she loved her family & especially loved being a mother. I can still taste her excellent cooking. Sharing in your sorrow with deepest sympathy, Sara Beth Jimerson
I came to know Angie when I was a new graduate (from St. James School of Nursing), working in the ICU. She was not only a great mentor, but also a lovely person. After all these years, I never forgot her name or smile. May her family be comforted at such a loss, knowing what a blessing she was to everyone she met. May she RIP.
I only knew Angi for a few years and we quickly became good friends. She had a heart full of caring kindness. I will miss her sweet smile at water aerobics and the fun Buffalo football games at her home. Rest in peace Angi.
So sorry to hear of the passing of Angie. She was a good friend and an excellent nurse. She loved her family and loved life. Sincere condolences to her family. She will be missed. Love to Angie in heaven.❤️
Angie was such a a great person, she will be truly missed. Our football Sundays will not be the same, besides our water aerobics, and a shopping and lunch date. RIP ❤️
I met Angie in Kindergarten at St. Anne's. We may have been in 1st grade when she and I decided it was a great idea for me to go home with her after school. Mrs. Morey was so sweet and kind to me, but she was pretty surprised that no one knew that I was there! LOL There are so many wonderful memories with Angie through our school years. I'm picturing her right now wearing the crown and cape of the Homecoming Queen. You are loved and missed. (Remember "youse guys"?)
I will miss so much Angie. We became instant friends. We shared so many good times. I'll miss our shopping days at Belks and lunches, our football get togethers. You always made Tom and I feel like family. Rest in peace my dear friend.

My heart is broken for your loss best friend. I have so many memories growing up with you, I’ll never forget them. You were a beautiful person inside and out! So loved back here in Hornell, NY - it hurts knowing I have to add your picture on our Class of 69, 55th class reunion memory board this Friday. So many of us cherished you. You’ll never be forgotten BF!
Angie was a great friend for many, many years. We lived just around the corner from each other. My family lived on Oak Street and hers lived on John Street. We went all through school together from St. Ann's to Hornell Senior High. She will truly be missed. Prayers for her and all her family.
Shawna planted a tree for Angela.
Angi was a great friend - we enjoyed a fun trip with our children to Disney in Florida and shared many laughs - she was there for me when going rough times as a supportive and loving friend. I loved eating at both her Mom’s house as well as hers and so enjoyed their sauce. Although we haven’t visited in quite sometime I always felt close to her and actually think I introduced her to Bill at a Super Bowl party 💕Godspeed Angie you made your mark on this world and are much loved.
