Anna Maria GerresAnna Maria (Pinzhoffer) Gerres, age 96, passed away peacefully on July 28th in Pompano Beach, Florida. A 25 year resident of Washington Township, Anna and her husband Joe were the founders of the renowned FIN 'N' CLAW Seafood Restaurant on Pascack Road.Anna was born on October 23, 1920 in Sacalaz, Romania. She came to the United States in 1940. In 1950 Anna and husband Joe started up a small restaurant in Manhattan on 3rd Ave. and 79 St. and named it the "FIN 'N' CLAW". Anna and Joe's attention to detail, quality and customer service led to their growing success and eventual move to Washington Township, New Jersey in 1959.There they purchased a small pizza restaurant, the "The Washington Villa". "Ann" and Joe renovated and expanded the building and changed the name to their Manhattan restaurant, The "FIN 'N' CLAW". They had a waiting line their first week in business. The rest is restaurant history. The Fin and Claw became a landmark establishment in Pascack Valley attracting dinners from as far away as Connecticut. Ann and Joe retired to Florida but not yet finished with their entrepreneurial endeavors. They opened a third Fin and Claw in Lighthouse Point, Florida in 1977. Anna was well known for her most sincere, warm and caring ways . She was a remarkable individual. Her kindness. selflessness and love for her family , country church and community are a model for us all.Anna Gerres is survived by her beloved daughter, Nancie (Gerres) Keegan, son- in- law, Tom Keegan, granddaughter Christine (Keegan) Hamrick, grandson, Scott Keegan and great granddaughters Emma and Piper Hamrick of Charleston, South Carolina. Family includes nephews and nieces and extended family in Canada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, California and MissouriDonations in Anna Gerres's name can be made to Hospice foundations.
