Anne Carothers-KayDes MoinesAnne Carothers-Kay, 59, of Des Moines, IA passed away on February 18th after a valiant fight against adenoid cystic carcinoma.Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, February 24th at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines. A memorial service will be held February 25th at 11:00 am at the same location.Anne was born on February 26th, 1957 in Fremont, Nebraska to Paul and Donna Carothers. She attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where she received a degree in journalism. Anne worked for the Des Moines Register first as a reporter, covering stories such as the 1992 Olympics, the Oklahoma City bombing and Des Moines' own McCaughey septuplets, before making the shift to editor. Anne left the Register in 2008 to follow her passion for healthy lifestyle journalism as editor of Heart Health Living magazine from Meredith Publications. She earned a Creative Excellence award and a Gold award in Patient Education Information from the National Health Information Awards in 2009 for her work on that magazine. Anne later ran her own freelance writing and editing business, Write to Fit, before finding a home with the Business Record as managing editor.Anne's final days were a reflection of her life. Her hospice room was a gathering place for family and friends coming to share stories and listen to jazz music.Anne was preceded in death by her husband, James Kay and her brother, Paul Carothers. She is survived by her partner, Tom Wilson, her two children, Meagan (Ian) Mostrom and Evan Kay, her brothers Andy (Lynn) Carothers of Beatrice, NE and Alan (Christina) Carothers of Lincoln, NE and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Memorial donations can be made to Lutheran Church of Hope, Des Moines or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.
