Anne M. Doherty • BurlingtonAnne Elizabeth (Mooers) Doherty died on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at VNA Respite House. She was born on March 18, 1925, in Plattsburgh, NY, the daughter of Carl E. and Irene B. Mooers. She graduated from Plattsburgh High School and from Russell Sage College with a degree in mathematics. She married Philip A. Doherty in 1945 immediately upon his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy and shared a wonderful life with him until his death in 2009.Family was of utmost importance to Anne and Phil. From summers at Dreamland, their family compound in Grand Isle, to holidays at Overlake, their home in Burlington, any meal was an occasion to gather family and friends. Anne was self-assured, gracious, fiercely independent, and the consummate hostess. She raised her children and grandchildren to be the same, and doted on her great-grandchildren.She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Phil, her son John M. Doherty, her sister Margaret E. Haley, and her sister-in-law, Ann Hambrook. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth and husband Gregory Phillips, Susan and husband C. Dodds Musser Jr., and Jane and husband William Mitchell; grandchildren, Matthew and wife Cheryl Doherty, Anne and husband Andre Rivas, Margaret Doherty, Leah and husband Gavin Mulvey, Alexander and wife Laura Kaufman, and great-grandchildren Charlotte, John and Catherine Doherty, Holden Mulvey, and Kaylin and Elam Kaufman. She is also survived by her niece, Margaret and husband Michael Gannon and their children Kevin Gannon, Kathleen and husband Scot Pedrick, and great-grandnieces Haley and Grace Pedrick, plus her sister-in-law's children Barbara, Molly and Bill Hambrook.Per Anne's request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2016 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 20 Pine Street in Burlington at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Court, South Burlington, VT 05403. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of UVMMC Shepardson 4 and VNA Respite House for their loving care of Anne during her final illness. The family will hold a celebration of Anne and Phil's life in June 2017.Visit
