Annette Resnik BulenCamarillo, CAAnnette Resnik Bulen passed away peacefully on March 15th, just 17 days shy of her 103rd birthday. She was born on April 3rd, 1914 in Baltimore, Maryland to Russian Jewish immigrant parents, Benjamin and Fannie Kositzky. Her parents left their homeland to escape czarist Russia just prior to the onset of World War I. Annette's brother Sidney was born in 1919. In 1923, her family moved to Los Angeles where her parents ran a small market. She attended George Washington High School where she belonged to the glee club and participated in athletics. She graduated at age 16 and then attended Los Angeles Junior College, majoring in business. The first car she learned to drive was a Model T Ford which had to be cranked to get started. In 1934, after a 4-year courtship, Annette married Morris (Morey) Resnik. Morey was a newspaper distributor and then worked at a junkyard. Their son, Stephen, was born in 1937 followed by another son, Hal, in 1940. Annette's best friend, Ruth Dizack, married Morey's brother, Joe. The four of them were inseparable and they raised their children together in Los Angeles and then both couples moved to Ventura County where their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grew up with close relationships that continue today. She always considered her children to be her investments. When her grandchildren arrived, they were her dividends and her great-grandchildren were compound interest! Annette and Morey moved to Camarillo in 1961 and opened the Ventura Walnut Shelling Co. in Somis. Their son Stephen joined them in the business soon thereafter. They processed walnuts for over 30 years in the Las Posas Valley and during those years opened a retail store which evolved into the Somis Nut House. Annette and Morey were longtime members of Las Posas Country Club where Morey played golf and they socialized with many wonderful friends. Morey passed away in 1971 leaving Annette a widow at aged 57. A few years later, she met Dan Bulen and they were married in 1973. They settled in a ranch house in Somis where they raised horses and pigs. During their marriage, they traveled extensively. After they divorced in 1995, Annette moved to Leisure Village in Camarillo. In 2013, she moved to Brookdale Senior Living where she spent her last few years being cared for by the wonderful staff there. The family would particularly like to thank Mari who gave her extra special care during her years at Brookdale. We also would like to thank Livingston Memorial Hospice for their gentle care during the past year. Annette lived through many historical milestones during her long life. She was very proud of the fact that she never missed voting in a presidential election from 1936, when she first became eligible (FDR's second term), to the present election in 2016. She had an amazing memory and happily shared her family history with family and friends. Her wisdom and life experiences were shared with and greatly influenced her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were fortunate to be able to spend time with her in her later years.Annette was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Resnik, and her brother, Sid Kordell (Shirley). She is survived by her son Hal Resnik, her daughter-in-law Joyce Resnik, grandchildren Rebecca Pecsok (Mike), Rachel Resnik-Miles Miles (Howard), Jeremy Resnik (Dee Dee), Miriam Gomberg (Robert) & Laura Meissen (Jay).
