Anthony CAPUTO Obituary

Jul 21, 1956 - Aug 28, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
CAPUTO, Anthony Ignatius Anthony Ignatius Caputo died of complications following a heart attack on August 28th, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred J. Caputo, on March 14th, 1999. He is survived by his mother Olga, his wife Vivian, his two children, Camille and Zachary, his sister and brother, Rachel Gottlieb and Jerry Caputo, and their respective families. Tony was born on July 21st, 1956 in Akron, Ohio to Olga and Alfred Caputo - the youngest of three children. Tony grew up in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California. He excelled in sports - he played baseball from Little League through high school, and was a lifelong Dodgers fan. He played football in high school as well, and his passionate love of football likewise persisted. While in high school, he took a photography class and fell in love with taking pictures. After graduating from Reseda High School in 1974, he attended Brooks Institute of Photography, where he would graduate at the top of his class in 1978. Tony opened and operated an advertising photography studio in Hollywood, California for almost twenty years, serving local, national, and international advertising agencies and clients. He was famous in the photography community for his mastery of studio lighting and his ability to seamlessly direct on set. He moved to Austin, Texas with his family in 1992, where he has been working as a photographer for the last 25 years. Another passion of Tony's was running. He started long-distance running seriously in 1996, and ran eight marathons and countless other half marathons, 10k and 5k races. Camille and Zachary started running with him in the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot race in Austin, and would grow up running alongside him in many other races. His love for running led him to mentor numerous novice runners who looked to him for help and training advice. Tony had an abiding love for God, and loved sharing his knowledge of scripture with anyone needing spiritual guidance. It was his profound relationship with God that helped make him such a joyous, magnetic individual. He was extremely quick to smile with an infectious laugh that you couldn't help but join in with when you heard it. Tony also had a deep affinity with the outdoors. The Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains and the John Muir Wilderness were his playgrounds in high school, college, and beyond. Whether he was hiking through the backcountry in Northern California or car camping in a Texas State Park, his love of nature would lend a hand in raising Zac and Camille. In 2003, he and Vivian moved their family to a 10-acre farm in the Austin area. A celebration of Tony's life will be held at 9:30 in the morning on Saturday, October 21st at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden in Austin, TX. We kindly ask that you refrain from giving gifts or flowers.
