Antonina "Antonia" G. Velasquez, 84, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at YRMC. She was born on September 2, 1929 in Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico to Galletano and Marta Gomez. In 1954, she married Antonio Gutierrez and had four children, Martha, Juanito, Teresa, and Carmel. Both Antonia and her husband migrated to U.S. from Mexico and they worked very hard in the fields in Salinas and San Jose to raise their children. Antonia woke up early in the mornings to make delicious flour tortillas and burritos. She was a great cook and could create a feast out of a chicken bone to feed everyone. Antonia never complained, she was a very positive, optimistic, and lived a very spiritual life. Antonia loved to sing, dance, and share Mexican proverbs. She lived the golden rule, "treat other as you want to be treated."In 1966, she became one of Jehovahs Witnesses and was a very faithfull and zelous preacher of the good news of Jehovahs Kingdom. Her most precious interests were placing spiritual values first in her life. She volunteered and dedicated her life to teach others about the God she worshipped, Jehovah. Even in her last days when her health conditions worsened, she loved Jehovah even more, and she looked forward to living in her new world. Antonia is survived by her sister, Isabel Gomez; daughters, Martha Ramos (Albert), Teresa Granados (Mike), and Carmel Gutierrez (Jose Alvarado); son, Juan Gutierrez; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
