Ardis Marie Briggs, 88, of Boise, Idaho passed away peacefully at home from natural causes on Thursday, November 17, 2016. Ardis was born on March 8, 1928 in Wesley, IA to George and Elfreda Lowers. She had a younger sister, Lois. Being raised by parents that were pioneers in aviation, Ardis had a very interesting childhood. By the time Ardis was five months old she had logged over 1,000 air miles flying with them as they tested new planes and participated in many aviation barnstorming events. Her earliest memories were of helping her dad seal seams on cloth-covered airplane wings. Ardis married the love of her life, Rolla Eugene Briggs, on December 31, 1946. For 68 years they enjoyed their many travels, adventures and working side by side. Their flying expertise came in handy while operating their backcountry ranch, the Selway Lodge - one of Ardis's favorite places. After the Selway, Ardis and Rolla moved to Boise where Ardis was Personnel Director for the City of Boise for several years. Ardis's love of cooking influenced their later adventures in life ranging from cooking at Thunder Mountain, to starting Ardis's Bakery & Catering as well as operating the Country Inn in Garden Valley. Family celebrations were always guaranteed to have plenty of Mom's gourmet cooking as well as tips on how to cook. We all have very special memories of her that will always be treasured. With a trust in and love of the Lord, Mom exemplified an inner strength that was admired by family and friends. We will all miss her but we know that she has taken that final flight and is now with Jesus, Dad and her family. We love you Mom. She is survived by her four children: Larry, Debra (John), Pamela, and Frieda (Jeff); 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 1-1/3 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rolla; her parents; and her sister, Lois. Please visit Ardis's online memorial at
