Arla P. Covey, age 90, a lifelong resident of AuSable, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at West Branch Regional Hospital. She was born on Nov. 9, 1920, to Elmer and Elizabeth Stewart in Greenbush. Arla attended Oscoda Area Schools. She was a sales representative with Avon for many years. Arla also worked for Gilbert's Drug store, Taylor Department store and Roger's Department store. She was a member of Community of Christ Church in Mikado. Arla loved quilting, baking, gardening and being with her family. She is survived by her children, Stewart (Shelby) Covey of Florida, Sheila Christensen of Michigan and Jerry (Sandra) Covey of Alaska. Arla is also survived by her sisters, Ada DeCosta, Mary Thompson and Shirley Wessman; and her grandchildren, Sherrie Henning, Bradley Lightcap, Brian (Patricia) Lightcap and Jacob (Rachel) Covey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; her brothers, Clyde Stewart and Chanes Stewart; and her sisters, Nellie McNeill, Lillian Minor and Mildred O'Dell. A memorial service was held at the Buresh Chapel in Oscoda on Sunday, Dec. 12, with the Rev. Richard A. Karsen officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be directed to the .
