THOMPSON, Arlen (Art) RichardOn June 22, 2017 Mr. Arlen Thompson passed away at the age of 80 years.Art was diagnosed with cancer in May 2017. After a brief struggle with illness, he passed away on June 22, 2017 at the Westview Continuing Care Centre in Stony Plain, Alberta. Art was born on August 1, 1936 and was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Cecilia, sister Audrey and brother Grant. He is survived by his loving wife Irma and his son Robert (Susanne), and his grandchildren Jack and Josephine. Art is also survived by his sisters Gail Strigl, Barbara Marshall, Frances Buxbaum (Hans), Joan Ramsay (Ken), and their families.Art worked in the financial services industry for many years and made many good friends. He enjoyed the outdoors and frequently went fishing and hunting. Later in life, Art was an avid runner and ran many marathons into his sixties. He enjoyed golfing and even got the occasional hole-in-one. After his retirement, Art became a snowbird and spent 19 winters in Phoenix, Arizona. He enjoyed hosting friends and family at their winter home.A celebration of Art's life will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, 52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, AB. Following the service he will be laid to rest at Glenwood Cemetery.The family is sincerely grateful to the doctors and staff for the wonderful care that Art received during his stay at the Westview Continuing Care Centre.
