MUNCIE — Arnold H. Tonne, 90, passed away September 6, 2014. He was born on September 2, 1924, in Fort Wayne the son of Arnold and Lena (Wesling) Tonne, graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School, attended Valparaiso and Purdue University, left college to serve our country during WWII, and returned to Fort Wayne to manage the family business Tonne Dairy. Arnold married Pearl E. Hemmeter on December 28, 1947. Arnie owned and operated Tonne Dairy, managed Golden Isle Dairy in the Bahamas, and was founder of Quality Containers in Louisville, Kentucy, retiring from there in 1998 to his favorite place Clear Lake, Indiana. Following retirement, he volunteered in Third World countries installing dairies and water filtration systems and singing with the barbershop chorus "The Pokagon Pitchpipers." Arnold was baptized and confirmed in faith at Zion Lutheran Church and raised his family as members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he volunteered with Worship for Shut-Ins. In retirement, he moved to Clear Lake and joined Clear Lake Lutheran Church where he was an active member. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Pearl; four children, Karen Gleave (Don Sloan), Kathie Simmons (Larry), Kevin Tonne (Mary), and Kraig Tonne (Lori); seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Tonne. Memorial services will be held at Clear Lake Lutheran Church, 270 Outer Drive, Clear Lake, Indiana, with calling from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Worship for Shut-Ins, Clear Lake Lutheran Church or Concordia Lutheran High School.
