Arthur G. OrtegaVentura, CAArthur G. Ortega, 90, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2017, due to Alzheimer's. He was born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1926, in Santa Paula, the second of eight children. He grew up during the Great Depression, and then proudly served in the military police (MP) in the post-World War II occupation forces in Japan. He had a 35 year career as a civil servant for the U. S. Dept. of Navy, Port Hueneme, as a forklift operator and truck driver.Art had so much energy and was full of life. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping trips with family and friends especially to the lake to go water skiing. He was 80 years old when he last water skied. He thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard and taking care of his precious avocado trees, and, of course, eating avocados.Sports were a big part of his life. Art coached and managed Little League, Pony League, and Babe Ruth baseball teams for 10 years. He was a fanatic UCLA fan, and was a UCLA football season ticket holder for 30 years.Art is preceded in death by his parents: Arturo and Clara; sisters: Lola, Annie, and Becky; and brothers: Leonard and Alvino.Art is survived by his loving and caring wife, Barbara, of 65 years; sisters: Carolyn and Juanita; children: Artie (wife Vanessa) and Doug (wife Jill); and grandchildren: Ronnie and Marissa.Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 757 East Main Street, Ventura.
