Arvelyn J. MillerPEORIA - Arvelyn "Arvie" J. Miller, 88, formerly of Canton, passed away on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at Manor Court in Peoria. Arvie was born on June 2, 1928, in Cuba, Ill., to Robert A. and Wyvonee Evans Welch. They preceded her in death along with her son, Douglas, of Pekin. Surviving are one son, Stephen (Beth) of Dunlap; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Miller of Pekin; four grandchildren, Katie (David) Schrader of Orlando, Fla.; Bryan (Liz) Miller of Benbrook,Texas; Amy Miller of New Hope, Minn.; and Marjorie Miller of Normal. Also surviving are one great-granddaughter, Emily Schrader, and one sister, Marietta (Keith) Johnson of Mansfield Center, Connecticut.Arvelyn graduated from Canton High School and Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She was a seventy-year member of First Christian Church in Canton, where she taught Sunday school tor twenty years. Arvie was the first woman elected to the Canton Park Board, serving 19 years, four of those years as president. She was also a member of Chapter JQ of the PEO sisterhood and the Altruistic Club. Arvelyn was a driver for Meals on Wheels since its beginning in Canton.There will be a private memorial service at a later date, and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Canton.
