She attended St. Liborius grade school and graduated from Fairview High School in Polo, SD in 1959. After graduation, she attended Stewart's School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls and started working as a hairstylist in Aberdeen and Ipswich, SD. On September 9, 1961, Audrey and Derry Dean Hochhalter were united in marriage. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Following their wedding date, Derry was called back into military service and the couple spent nine months stationed in Ft. Chaffee, AR. On discharge, the couple returned to Columbia, SD, and farmed near Groton, SD. In 1963, they moved west of Orient where they farmed until 1981. At that time, they sold the family farm and purchased the Super 8 Motel in Vermillion. Derry and Audrey lived in the motel until 1989 and operated it until "retiring" in 1996. In addition to the Super 8, Audrey and Derry owned a motel in Luverne, MN, managed another motel in South Sioux City, NE, and owned and operated a number of apartments in Vermillion. Audrey took great pride in the cleanliness of all of her various properties. She greatly enjoyed attending and following numerous sporting activities with Derry and their dear friends -- oftentimes following the various Coyote teams on road trips across the country.
