On Tuesday December 20th, 2016 Audrey Louise Paczynski passed away at the age of 83. She passed comfortably at Northrise Homestead Memory Care Unit with her son by her side. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 56 years Alexander Stephen Paczynski and her son Jeffery Paul Paczynski. She is survived by her son Douglas James Paczynski. Audrey was born on Dec 9th, 1933 in Cincinnati Ohio. There she attended school and graduated in 1950. It was then when she met Alex. They were married in June of 1956 and moved several times in the next few years following Alex's engineering career. They settled in Las Cruces, NM in 1960 when Alex accepted a position with NASA. Audrey received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree on May 13, 1970 from NMSU. When the United Nations declared International Women's Year in 1975, each state held programs to highlight the achievements of women. Audrey was selected as a co-chair of the event for New Mexico, named "Fiesta de Mujeres." It required the identification and gathering of the talents needed for this event. This included publicity, coordination, and outreach nationwide. The Governor of New Mexico, opened the festivities, followed by the Treasurer of the United States. There were many other political and local notables there to celebrate the two-day event. Audrey and her crew put in many hours of preparation for this event. More than twenty thousand people attended, which was covered by the national and international news media. The success of this historic project for the state of New Mexico and its contributions to the United Nations International Women's year was attributed to the devotion and commitment that Audrey and her team put into this project. Audrey started working at White Sands Missile Range entering into government service as a Travel and Transportation Clerk in the Logistics Division. Her work ethic and quality of work was quickly recognized and she was promoted to the position of Audio Visual Specialist Directorate. She was placed in charge of Audio Visual support to the Commanding General's conference room. She had the enormous responsibility of insuring that briefings and presentations went off flawlessly. These meetings included, generals, politicians, presidential appointees, foreign dignitaries and foreign defense personnel. This was a challenge she always met. She received many awards for her work and she was known for her reliability and competence in getting the job done. She also served as a Board Member on the White Sands Missile Range Museum Foundation and was a member of Federally Employed Women (FEW). After retiring for government service she continued working as a Auxilian volunteer at Memorial Medical Center. Audrey was an artist of many dimensions. She was an accomplished singer in her youth. Audrey also played piano and organ. She was a painter and liked to work with ceramics. She was an animal lover owning many dogs. She will be dearly missed by her friends and spiritual family at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. A funeral service will be held on Saturday January the 7th at St Andrews Episcopal Church located at 518 N Alameda Blvd Las Cruces NM at 11:00 am with a luncheon/reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at the at 125 N Main St Suite 103. Or St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
