Barbara Carter, beloved resident of Hunters Point, California, passed away on June 8, 2024, at 77. She was born on May 2, 1947, and had a full and colorful life filled with love, laughter, and a few too many shopping trips.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of six children, all of whom she adored and occasionally drove crazy. Lamont, Donate, DeMario, Latasha, Latanya, and Chauncey will forever remember their mother's fierce love and insistence on family game nights, even when she cheated at cards.
Barbara graduated from Hunters Point II School in 1966, where she was known for her impeccable style and slightly rebellious attitude. She continued her education at San Francisco State University, where she earned her degree in 1972 and promptly put it to use tormenting her children with grammar lessons at the dinner table.
For over 40 years, Barbara worked at San Francisco General Hospital, where she was known for her delicious cooking and no-nonsense attitude. She retired in 2014, leaving behind a trail of coworkers who still can't believe she's gone.
In her free time, Barbara enjoyed cooking extravagant meals for her family, playing cards with her friends, and spoiling her grandchildren rotten (much to their parents' dismay). Her love for shopping was legendary, and the local mall is already feeling a decline in sales without her weekly visits.
Barbara's unexpected passing was due to a pesky, inconvenient heart attack. She would have been annoyed to know that it interrupted her plans for another shopping trip, but we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace. Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 15, 2024, 2:00 PM at Thompson Bay View Mortuary 945 Gilman Ave, San Francisco
