Pamachena, Barbara Ann 85, passed away on March 25, 2017, at her home in Mesa. She was born on February 26, 1932 in Sublette, IL, to Shelby and Mary (Smith) Pennington. She grew up in Batavia, IL and graduated from Batavia High School in 1950. She attended Northern Illinoi State Teachers College in DeKalb, IL, where she joined the Kappa Delta Sorority. Barbara met her husband Robert (bob) in their sophomore year in a class titled Public Opinion and Propaganda. There were married on August 22, 1953 prior to their senior year. Bob and Barbara had their first child (Ronald) on September 8, 1954. Bob was inducted into the Army six weeks later and was stationed at Fort Chaffe, AR. Barbara and Ron joined Bob after he completed clerk's school and they resided in Fort Smith, AR for the duration of his service. They returned to DeKalb in 1956. Bob worked for General Electric and transferred to Phoenix GE Computer in October 1957. Barbara became active with the Kappa Dealt Alumni Sorority in Phoenix. She also became a Docent at the Arizona State University Museum. The family moved to the East Valley where Barbara became a member of the Salt River Panhellenic Alumni Association. Barbara had their second child, Roger, on October 9, 1965. At the age of 9, Roger helped his mother during her volunteer work with the ASU Kappa Delta Sorority. Roger was quickly adopted by the sorority girls. As the years went by, Barbara began to have a variety of health issues that forced her to curtail many of her activities and she eventually passed away. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roger (Lucille), and sister Nancy (Norman) of Lexington, VA. Barbara is survived by her husband, Bob; sons Ronald and Roger (Cassandra); her sister Linda (Howard) of Naperville, IL, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Apache Wells Community Church, 2115 N. Gayridge Rd., Mesa, AZ, at 10:30 am. Lunch will be provided in the church activity room following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Banner Health Foundation.
