Barbara Chiperfield TrapnellJuly 7, 1931 - August 15, 2017 - Barbara Chiperfield Trapnell, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on July 7, 1931 to Edith Sinclair Chiperfield and Claude Burnett Chiperfield in Sydney, Australia, where her father served as US Vice Counsel. Her father's service moved the family to Venice, Italy, after which she returned to Asheville, NC, her mother's family home. Barbara attended St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines Academy in Asheville, graduating in 1948. She graduated from University of Georgia in 1952, having previously attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC. She thoroughly enjoyed her career as an elementary school teacher in the Atlanta area for many, many years and often said one of her great joys in life was when a student she taught as a young person would greet her in later years and thank her for being their teacher. Barbara's early affiliations include the Old Maids Club of Asheville, the Junior Assembly of Asheville, and the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh. She had a special love for her dear friends from St. Genevieve's, who remained her friends all her life. She had many lifelong passions, including a deep love of reading, travel, history, and politics. She had a standing bridge game every Wednesday night throughout her lifetime and always sought good conversation. In her later years she became an artist and painted daily, entering local competitions regularly. Barbara is survived by her three children, Carson Trapnell Seeligson (Arthur), Peter Deloach Trapnell, and Christena Trapnell Reese (Jonathan), and her grandchildren, to whom she was known as "Baba", Sinclair and Addie , Austin, Carson, Samantha and Mathew. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Chiperfield and his wife Jody, of Charlotte, NC, and their children, Cindy Chiperfield McLeod and Jim Chiperfield and their families.
