Barbara HallAustinBarbara Jean Hall, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away April 24, 2017, in Austin, Texas, after a brief illness, at the age of 84. She was born on Sept. 9, 1932, in Borger, Texas, to Philip Borger and Bobbie (Linthicum) Dendy.Barbara had a caring heart and a strong will. She was happy with the life she lead and the example she provided.She moved with her mother from the Panhandle to San Angelo at the age of nine. After graduating from San Angelo High School, she attended North Texas State University and earned a degree in Art Education. At North Texas, she met her sweetheart and future husband, Bill Somers Hall, on a blind date. After their courtship, they married in Denton, Texas, on Jan. 5, 1954.Shortly thereafter, Barbara and Bill started a family with three children, Jan, Jimmy and Jeffrey. Barbara was a stay-at-home mom during the children's preschool years and participated in many activities in support of her children, including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and art instruction. When her youngest child begin school, Barbara decided to become a school teacher. She secured her teaching certificate and started as a reading specialist in 1968 at Reagan Elementary School and then moved to Bradford Elementary School. She remained at Bradford Elementary until she retired in her early 60s. Also, while teaching full-time, she earned a Master in Education, Reading Specialist, from Angelo State University.Barbara used her artistic talents in needle-working, painting and to becoming an accomplished porcelain painter along with her mother. She won numerous awards for her porcelain art, including Best of Show at the San Angelo Fat Stock Show & Rodeo over her painting career. She was an active member in the First United Methodist Church of San Angelo. At the time of her death, Barbara was the longest active member of the Church at 73 years.Barbara is survived by her husband, Bill; daughter Jan Trantham and husband Sam of Lakeway, Texas; sons Jimmy Alan Hall of Wimberley, Texas and Jeffrey Hall and wife Tricia of Austin; her brother, Alan Borger and wife Harriett of San Angelo; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.A memorial celebration of Barbara's life is at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Trinity Church of Austin, 4001 Speedway, Austin, 78751.
