Mrs. Barbara Marie Berton, 83, of Lake City, Florida passed away peacefully Wednesday morning October 23, 2013 at the Still Waters Assisted Living Facility after an extended illness. Mrs. Berton was born on June 23, 1930 in New York to the late Herman and Madia Hill Rosenbrock. Mrs. Berton was wed to the love of her life in 1954, Mr. Louie "Lou" Berton and was married for 33 years until his passing in 1987. Mrs. Berton was a bookkeeper in the accounting field for many years and moved to Lake City 22 years ago from Pearl River, New York. Mrs. Berton was very active; she was involved with the Newcomer's club; her and her husband were also members of a yacht club in New York. She enjoyed traveling and going out to eat and was always very elegantly dressed; she loved to send cards and words of encouragement to her friends for birthdays and anniversaries; she also was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she moved her membership in 1991 from St. Paul Episcopal Church where she was christened on March 10, 1935. She was elected to office by the Lutheran Women's Missionary League/Dorcas Organization as Secretary where she remained very active until ill health prevented her from continuing. Her handwriting was very meticulous, which enabled her to keep accurate minutes of meetings and she was very involved in other activities around the church. In 2010 she became a member of The Vineyard Baptist Church. She remained a faithful member of both churches. Mrs. Berton was also preceded in death by her life-long friend and neighbor: Joan Lites.Mrs. Berton is survived by all of her loving and caring friends: Robert Lites of Ft. White; Frances and Claude Phillips of Ft. White; John and Imogene Graham of Ft. White; Gerald and Arden Lites of Sabastop, CA; Annette and Tommy Sipes of Liberty, SC; Larry Lites of Ft. White and Garry and Debbie Lites of Ft. White.Memorial services for Mrs. Berton will be conducted on Saturday November 2, 2013 at 2 P.M. in the Vineyard Baptist Church with Rev. Bo Hammock and Rev. Bruce Alkine officiating. Interment will be at a later date in New York. In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to Haven Hospice, 6037 W US Highway 90 Lake City, FL 32055.
