Barbra P. AshbyOct. 16, 1924 ~ Oct. 29, 2016Delta, UT-Barbra Dean Petersen Ashby, age 92, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Delta, Utah. She was born on October 16, 1924 in Hinckley, Utah; the youngest of 10 children born to Nels L and Edith Bennett Petersen. She grew up in Hinckley and graduated from Hinckley High School in 1942, where she participated in many activities. She was an outstanding typist, winning all her high school competitions. She met Richard Dell Ashby on a blind date, and they married on May 25, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Shortly after, Dell joined the US Navy, and Barbra moved her family to Idaho, Washington and California, as Dell served his country. In 1950, they returned to Delta. She worked for Farmer's Home Administration and Dudley Craft's Law Firm. When Dell was hired as Administrator of the West Millard Hospital, she worked alongside Dell as his secretary and Director of Medical Records. Even after Dell retired, she served on the Utah Medical Record Association Board as Chairman of the Consulting Committee and on the Nominating Committee. She retired in 1990. Dell passed away on Sept. 6, 2014.Barbra was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt; a great homemaker and cook. She supported her five children and her grandchildren in all their activities. Active in the community; served in the LDS Church as Relief Society and Primary Presidents, and in Young Womens and various other callings. Her family loved her dearly.Barbra is survived by her daughters: Delene (Jerry) Huff, Las Vegas, NV; Joan (Chad) Anderson, St. George; Sonya (David) Taylor, Oak City; sons: Richard (Thalia) Ashby, Bountiful; Roger (Kim) Ashby, Delta; 19 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandson: Colton Roger Ashby; 5 sisters and 4 brothers.Funeral: Thursday, November 3, 11 AM, Delta LDS 1st Ward, 222 W 200 N. Viewings: Wednesday, 7-8 PM, at Nickle Mortuary, 190 S. Center St, Delta; and Thursday, 9:30-10:40 AM prior to service. Burial at the Delta City Cemetery. Online condolences at
