FAIRBORN — WILLIAMS, Barder, age 89 of Fairborn passed away on Tuesday, Aug, 14 after a three month illness. He fought hard hoping to get back on the golf course and wanting to spend more years with his family, but in the end the family was blessed to know that he had joined his beloved wife, Winifred, in heaven. Barder was born on Mar. 17 of 1923 in Hazard, KY to Virgie (Conley) and Herman Williams. At the age of 17, he met his future wife Winifred Hodges of Oklahoma, and they married on April 13, 1942. Later that year, he enlisted in the army and headed overseas. Barder landed at Normandy during the D-day invasion in 1944. Barder came home to his wife and family on Christmas Day of 1945. He spent the next 35 years working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a crane operator. Barder was a member of the Dignam-Whitmore Post 526 for over 63 years. After Winifred's death in 2003, Barder "reinvented" himself as a traveler and golfer. He began spending a few months of each year with his sister in San Diego, and the rest of the year he lived with his son, John Robert Williams in Fairborn. Barder developed close relationships with his Son, Grand Children, and great Grand-Children, and will be sorely missed by all.
Barder was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Winifred, a brother, Adron Williams, and two sisters: Ruth Ferguson and Lula Kuschel. He is survived by his son John Robert Williams of Fairborn, grand-daughter Robyn Jenkins Poling (Steve) of Fairborn, and grandson Ryan Williams (Megan) of Fairborn. Four great-grandchildren: Madalyn and Katherine Jenkins and Chase and Connor Williams, all of Fairborn. Barder is also survived by his sister Emma Webb of San Diego, CA, numerous nieces and nephews, many cousins, and wonderful friends.
The family would like to thank the many nurses and therapists at Greene Memorial Hospital for their care over the last two months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Children's Medical Center of Dayton.
