BARRY JOHN LOBODY Barry John Lobody, 73, of Kouts passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family as the first flurries of snow gently fell on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016. Barry was born on June, 5, 1943 in Gary, IN to the late George and Almyra Lobody. He was raised there and graduated from Gary Lew Wallace High School in 1961. He briefly served in the US Navy before he met and married Barbara Daley of Gary on July 10, 1965. They settled in Kouts in June of 1973 where they raised their four children. Barry, a devoted husband and father, loved camping, fishing and hunting. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and loved to travel with his family. An active member of the community, he helped lay the groundwork for the establishment of youth organizations in Kouts such as Cub Scouts and Little League. Barry was best known for his smile, kindness and humor. He was the ultimate jokester and could be found most mornings at the local KoffeeKup. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and four children: Barry George Lobody of LaPorte; Bruce (Cathy) Lobody of Valparaiso; Brian (Tonya) Lobody of Kouts; Jennifer Thompson of Lafayette; four grandchildren: Mackenna Thompson, Hayden Thompson, Brielle Lobody, Logan Lobody; two sisters, Judy Stewart and Patty Krol; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother George Lobody. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Open Door Fellowship at 636 S. Baum Bridge Road in Kouts. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed to: VNA Hospice Home Care, 2401 Valley Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
