Bart Robert Tizio died in the hospital on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the age of 92.Bart was born on August 27, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the eldest child of Bartolo Tizio and Angelina Palisi Tizio. His younger siblings, Joseph Tizio and Anna Alonzi survive him.Bart spent his youth in and around the New York area, fishing with his father and wooing his childhood sweetheart, Marie Acampora. At 18 he graduated from the New York School of Aviation and soon after he was drafted into the armed services. He chose to join the Navy and was first stationed in Memphis, TN. He soon after sent for Marie to join him and they were married on January 8, 1944. Their wonderful marriage lasted 70 years until her death in 2014. He is survived by their three children, Barbara August of Brooklyn, NY, Jane Tizio of Winchester, VA, and Bart Tizio Jr. of Allentown, PA. He was much loved by his seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.In 1965 the family moved to Winchester when Bart's job at Harris Intertype transferred him. They quickly settled into life in Virginia and he became an integral part of the community. He was an active member in the Knights of Columbus and was the lighting man at The Follies for many years. Bart ushered at his beloved Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was involved in many fund raising activities including the famous Spaghetti Dinner where he was the head pasta cooker.At 65 he retired from his position as Plant Engineer at Abex. In his later years, he enjoyed golfing and spending time with family and friends. He was a dearly loved and kind gentleman. All who knew him will be saddened by his loss.The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. with a prayer service being held at 3:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will be will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with the Rev. Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Bennington, Mark Tartaglione, Muhamed Hassan, Bruce Santilli and Bart Michael Tizio.
