September 26, 1921 - November 25, 2016Barton Irby, age 95, of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully on November 25, 2016. He was born on September 26, 1921 in Woodruff, SC to George and Hannah Barton Irby. He was a naval aviator during World War II and the Korean War. After retirement from the United States Navy, he worked for the Social Security Administration retiring in 1983. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Vera Foster Irby, his brothers, George S. Irby, Jr. and Laurens Hunter Irby. He is survived by his daughters, Amory Irby, of San Antonio, TX and Aletha Irby of Austin, TX and his sister, Nelle I. Olive, of Cleveland , SC and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place from 6-8 pm on Monday, December 5th at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 6th at 9:00 am at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Dexter Brown officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Sunset Memorial Park. The family would like to thank everyone at Home Instead and Interim Hospice for the loving care of their father.
